District Background
Mokena School District 159 offers a public education to approximately 1,570 students in approximately 12 square miles of Mokena, IL. The District is comprised of three schools: Mokena Elementary School (K-3), Mokena Intermediate School (4-5), and Mokena Jr. High School (6-8).
District 159 has a rich history as a high achieving school district that has provided a quality education for students with roots that stretch to the 1850’s. The first school was built in Mokena in 1855 and was reassigned from District 7 to District 159 in 1901.
Since the first school’s founding, this community has always supported education. As the community grew, school construction, staffing and quality programs became a priority. Mokena families were willing to invest in their children through volunteering in the schools and supporting the hiring of outstanding teachers and administrators.
